went for great morning run in windsor, approx 6k, sunny, no breeze, with my bf and bro-in-laws and learned some neat stuff (how to get to target heart rate, how to train for distance vs speed, why music is annoying while running!).  needed 2 walking breaks but they were short.

Hey Neek!

Welcome to the blog! It was a really day for a run. There are some neat features on your home page to track stuff like shoe mileage. Nice to see you on here!

Welcome to the blog Ay? lol sorry I had to do it. I grew up just off the border by Calgary BC in Coeur D'lene Idaho. Sounds like you have some nice places to run.

Hi Cordee -

I also am a grad of RR Learn to Run, then went on to do 10k clinic, Half clinic and now a Full clinic. It's a great way to build your running and meet great people in the process.

I'm running Ottawa in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. My wife is from there, we both went to Carleton and have many friends/family to cheer me on.

Have fun with your running and your posting here.

Thanks for the welcome Rob and Walter. Hope your running is going well. This is a great site - I'm feeling motivated already.

spin rocks! have a hard time pushing it sometimes though if it's a boring class...

evening run, 15*, drizzle.  an excellent run (for me) - 6K in 39:50.  no walking breaks and base pace throughout.  low point was on the home stretch - it had gotten dark and some jerks in a red 4 door beeped their horn and really startled me.  i was on a path beside the road so there was absolute no danger involved - they were just being jerks.

Hi neek,

Nice week of training. Not ever bad run has a reason- its just an off day. You're getting lots of exercise in during the week- might be a little tired. Hope you had fun at the cottage!

Hi Neek,

Hope you had fun at the cottage. the pics were great!

You might want to go to a track and do a really light warm up and then do 2X1km at race pace 5:30 for 27:30 finish time/5:00 km for 25 min). See how the pace feels and how your body is reacting to it. It will give you a pacing gauge for race day. Good luck!!!!

From cordee on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 12:28:42 from 99.224.67.215

thx for the tip - i will try that tonight. getting pretty nervous for race day! we had fun at the cottage - hopefully sometime this summer we'll see u and em up there!

It's quite the adrenaline rush just going to the Expo!

Remember when the race starts, don't get caught up in going out hard- it's really easy to get caught up in the race adrenaline at the start line but you really pay for it after a km or two. First km to get relaxed and in a rythem.KMs 2-3 at manageable hard pace, kms 4-5- throw everything and the kitchen sink at it. At this point remember the run we did together on the ganachi- you felt you had to stop when we were 1/2 km out, but after a bit of coaxing, you pushed on and finished the run strong. Once you are past km3 or so, your brain will go into survival mode and start giving you every reason imaginable to slow down or stop- don't listen to it- push through and and you'll be really proud of yourself (and tired) at the finish line!!! Good luck again!

From cordee on Sat, May 23, 2009 at 19:52:07 from 99.224.67.215

thanks!! these are some excellent and great tips and i will definitely use them. unfortunately i didn't read them before the race but i can REALLY see what you mean now. i did get caught up in the rush at the beginning and felt like i was slogging it around 3K. would have liked more speed toward the end and will definitely work on that. it was a great time - TONS of people - and very energizing. we are just getting ready to go out now for fajitas and margaritas. a great reward. i'm looking forward to my first 10K. hope your own training is going well!!

From Darren232323 on Sun, May 24, 2009 at 11:55:02 from 70.54.71.38

Take it easy for a week to give your body and legs a chance to recover- 1/2 the mileage and decrease your cardio- might way to go really easy at the spinning classes or skip them.

pretty good for my first 5K.  got in under 30 which was my goal.  very hot sun for first 1/2 and found that a bit tough.  hardly any breeze.  also tough to try to get around all the walkers - not sure why they were in the 25-30 min category!  felt like I could have gone a lot further - but not that much faster.  next race will be a 10K!

Way to go Neek!!! Broke the 30 min mark which is pretty sweet. That a huge race for a first race- can be intimidating in a race with that many people.

You'll find oince you start getting into the speedwork it will increase your leg turnover and endurnance. Congrats!!

Hi everyone, thanks for the kind words! Yes - it was 5 K not 5 miles - and yes, 4 degrees C is definitely cold - but I tend to run faster in the cold so it's not all bad :) Hope your training is going well...

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Oct 05, 2009 at 14:47:31 from 192.168.1.1

Congratulations on the improvement!

Note that since the race distance was in kilometers, you should put 3.107 for the race distance in the report, not 5. This will remove the confusion.
